It all started with a brake job quote for a BMW - almost $3,000 for a job involving $750 in parts, coupled with labour costs that can exceed $200 an hour! Our founder thought to himself, “This isn’t rocket science, surely… how hard can it be?” He educated himself on the job, bought the parts and planned the repair. Using a simple tire jack, some patience and more than one Uber trip to the store to buy tools he didn’t know he needed, the job was done in just 8 hours (and 2 more days of recovery after twisting a few body parts from trying to reach into difficult areas and tightening bolts he couldn’t quite see). He realized that he lacked the tools to do the job right, and more importantly, safely. When the next job needed doing, he knew that if he had the right equipment, the job would take half the time. Most notably, he wanted to use a car lift. There are garages that allow you to rent their lifts, but they’re only open until 5:00pm and hardly allow a midnight tinkering on your car, or a stroll out to their garage after dinner… There remain no options for automotive lift rentals, at home.

Like most DIY mechanics in Toronto, our founder faced a recurring problem: big ambitions, limited space, and the high cost of specialized equipment. When you can’t reach the problem area, you can hardly address the repair. Properly torquing a suspension or caliper bolt shouldn’t mean torquing your back. Jack stands are fine, but they can be unsteady, are usually too low and at times, even dangerous. Why shouldn’t you be able to rent a piece of equipment that will comfortably and safely hold your car 2 feet off the ground without concern of laying underneath it? We believe that doing automotive mechanic work yourself properly, shouldn't require a $2,500 investment in a lift you only use once a year.
